June 2005

At the end of May, we were ready to move on. We
debated whether to head up the ICW or sail outside.
Our love of open water won out and we sailed overnight
to Port Canaveral. There, we encountered our first set
of canal locks, another learning experience which we
survived with only a small scratch.  After a long wait for
a bridge opening, we made it to Cocoa, Florida to
Whitley Marina. Docking was uneventful and we rested
for the night.

Dean and Carol Barber, another new Admiral couple,
live in nearby Orlando and invited us for a visit.  What a
fun time!  We talked about the boat and our trip and
showed our pictures. We even went on a short sail.
Dean treated us to an air boat ride on one of the
freshwater rivers which he overseas.  We spotted
numerous alligators along the bank.  Cool!

Another overnighter found us in St. Augustine where we
easily anchored. We spent two fun days there, doing
the tourist thing, taking a train tour through town.   We
did drink from the Fountain of Youth, so expect us to
look years younger when you see us again.  We
refueled, pumped out, and headed off with no drama.
After a long night and day, it was good to see the water
tower behind  Whitley Marina in Cocoa, Florida.

house in the US.  No, I didn't work there!
Another overnighter and we
pulled into Hilton Head Island,
a place I’d always wanted to
visit. We had hoped to dock at
the famed Harbour Town
Marina, but they couldn't
accommodate a Cat as wide
as us, so we refueled there
and took lots of pictures.  We
stayed the night at nearby
Palmetto Bay Marina and ate
at a local restaurant on the
site. We had the best shrimp
we have had so far in our
travels and I had my first
flounder in a long time. What a
treat!
