Tuesday, we were on our way by 8:00 am. This
part of the ICW is very beautiful. The Waccamaw
River is lined with beautiful trees and foliage. At
regular intervals are houses and docks of all
shapes and sizes. Turtles sunbathed on the rocks
near shore, along with an alligator or two. The day
passed quickly since we were motoring at between
6-7 knots.

Golf courses announced that we were close to
Myrtle Beach. We passed several bordering the
ICW, one with a cable car to transport golfers.  At
long last we spotted Dock Holidays Marina and
were docked by 4:30 pm.  We plan to stay here for
a month or so or until we play all the golf we can
stand. With hurricane season upon us, we’re glad
to be farther up the Coast. Hopefully we won’t
need to escape, but we can head north to the
Chesapeake quickly.

We spent the evening with another couple who
docked just after us and shared stories. They were
on the last leg of the Great Loop. We learned this
was the journey down the inland rivers and up the
East Coast.  They had been as far north as
Canada and as far south as the Keys. The Loop is
not on our agenda because of our mast height.

The next day we rested, did laundry, and planned
our journey to get the truck in Ft. Lauderdale.  On
Thursday, we rented a car and headed to Ft.
Lauderdale. It was a long drive, but we arrived
back at Dock Holidays on Saturday afternoon.

We stopped in at Myrtle Beach National Golf
Course and became Prime Members.  The next
morning we teed off at the South Course for our
first round of golf.  I even broke 100!  Life is good!

A week or so later we moved to another marina
near Little River called Coquina Yacht Club.  It is
less bumpy and more peaceful than the popular
night spot at Dock Holidays.   We like it here and
have decided to stay to the end of July.

Our good buddy, Dave Yockey, arrived for the
weekend of June 17th and he and John played 36
holes for three straight days.  It was brutal and
ended with the exchanging of the "bucks".  This
time it was "Johnny bucks", but the saga continues!
The journey up the Waccamaw River to Myrtle Beach was the
prettiest part of the ICW we have encountered.
You do see an interesting variety of seafaring vessels on the
ICW.  Not sure what the one above was.
We made our way through the Little River Swing Bridge (above)
to our new home in Coquina Yacht Club.(below)
John and Dave exchange "golf bucks".
Waterway Hills Golf Course runs along the ICW and golfers must ride a cable car (above) to get to the course from the
parking lot. It's a great view from up there (above left).

Our swings are looking better and so are our scores, at least on somedays.
