We left the safety and shelter of Trinidad the day after
Thanksgiving and headed over to Tobago, a short 60
mile sail, which, unfortunately, is dead into the wind. We
motored all night, beating our way there, arriving safely,
but tired.
(For those non-sailor types, beating into the wind is like
sitting in a bucket in a pool while some clown sprays
water in your face with a high pressure hose. It's great for
the first 5 minutes, then becomes annoying.)
We anchored at Mt. Irvine Bay, a small and peaceful bay
where we could actually see a golf course from our boat.
A guy we met in Fortaleza was there and we enjoyed
visiting with him and getting to know the other cruisers
anchored there. We stayed in Tobago for a week and
even got in a round of golf.
We met our friend, John Perry, in Tobago on his boat, Stingo.
Sunset in peaceful Mt. Irvine Bay, Tobago.
We checked in at Customs in Scarborough,(above) a busy
place with tiny shops, vendors (right) and lots of cars. We
rode the bus back to Mt. Irvine with a gaggle of children on
their way home from school.
We could see Mt. Irvine Golf Course from our
boat. The manager, Terry Peterson, was a
great host, giving us a round of golf. We had
met his brother, GIlbert, in Trinidad.
What a great layout! (Above is an example.)
